With Star Wars: The Last Jedi coming out on Blu-Ray today, I
wanted to share what I liked and mostly didn’t like from the film. Everybody
that has seen it has told me how amazing and awesome it is. I thought it was
good but not the best of the saga. It has moments of enjoyment but suffers a
lot of problems.
Spoiler
Alert:
Pros: I like the
opening with the epic space fight and Poe trying so hard to stop the First
Order by any means necessary. He’s just like what Han was in the originals
which is what Leia probably wanted him to stop being a hotshot cause it could get
him killed.
Seeing Luke again was great! He’s so much different than the
original trilogy. He’s broken and more cold now. I like what he did to Kylo’s
story where he told Rey one thing and she found something totally different but
told in a different perceptive. It’s the
exact same thing Obi- Wan did in A New Hope! The best part was seeing Yoda come
back to give Luke advice. I wish he was there with Rey learning more about the
force. I feel like there’s more she needs to learn.
The action was great. The fight with Rey and Kylo vs Snoke’s
guards was epic. The fight with Luke and Rey was great. A lot of samurai
inspired movements in that scene which made it enjoyable. The ending fight
between Luke and the First Order gave me goose bumps. Even Luke confronting
Kylo had my jaw drop. As many people thought Kylo killed Luke with his strike
but not today.
Cons: Right off the bat Snoke’s death was ridicules. We
don’t his motives or who he really is. People are theorizing that he’s Darth Plagueis
but I doubt it. When I watch a movie I would have something said to me and be
surprised than look up what the director said or fans think. I would’t like if
he came back to life cause that would be stupid. He had so much potential to be
a great villain but sadly not as more. I think if he could’ve explained his
plan more and who he was then kill him off in a epic lightsaber fight with Rey.
Luke could’ve explained more on where Snoke found Kylo.
Holdo was pointless. She didn’t have any reason to be so
sneaky and secretive about her plan. Killing off Ackbar was incredibly
pointless too! If they cut Holdo out and had Ackbar in her position, it would
make sense. After Leia does her weird Superman thing he could’ve told Poe that
they are trying to get rid the First Order and need to get to another planet.
Poe then asks Rose and Finn to go on a mission to stop the enemy ship with a
spy who is acting like a Rebel (Benicio del Toro). He betrays them and they
both get out the same way. Benicio dies with the exploding ship after finding
out he has no room in his ship for his winnings. That casino scene had no
reason of being there instead of an animal cruelty message.
There’s so many unanswered question from Force Awakens that
The Last Jedi fails to explain. Whose
Rey’s parents? How did Snoke find Kylo? What made Kylo want to follow Snoke?
Where was the Knights of Ren? How did Luke send R2 to Leia? Why did R2 suddenly
wake up at the end? How did Maz find Luke’s lightsaber? These are questions that
rely on the characters and plot but the writers forget how important it is to
explain. The answer to Rey’s parents being drunks makes no sense. How is she a
Jedi then?! Were her parents a Jedi and then after the extinction they gave her
away?
After all of that, I wasn't floored or amazed the sequel as everyone was. I'm a huge fan of the saga but these cons made it hard for me to find it amazing. I like it but not love it.
